When I started out in advertising back in Detroit, fresh out of college, I was a producer. But I quickly realized I didn’t want to create other people’s ideas…I wanted to create my own. So, based on the strength of my YouTube Sketch Comedy videos my agency generously transferred me from Production to Creative with a promise that if it turned out that I sucked, I’d be fired in 6 months.
All these years later I am a Creative Director/Copy in New York. So… phew! I guess I was ok.
When I’m not writing ads, I write and direct short films and sketch comedy. And when I’m not writing and directing short films and sketch comedy, I’m karaoke-ing. Fun fact! I have karaoked in all 50 states. And believe it or not Iowa was my favorite?

ThesePeople is a side project I started with some friends back in Detroit and continue to work on whenever I have time. During the initial boom of Internet videos in the mid-00s we created sketch comedy that was featured literally everywhere. YouTube, CollegeHumor, NBC.com, Yahoo!, MySpace and so on. I think for any “Ad Person” you have to have an outlet with no client comments and no filter. Just let your creative juices flow and see how people react to it. ThesePeople were lucky enough to have people react favorably with millions of views, thousands of subscribers and even an appearance on a reality TV show.
